I just found out that in 1950, 184 of about 1,500 houses in my neighborhood didn’t yet have plumbing. That explains SO MUCH. (So yeah...I am not in your era).

I’ve got a Chromecast and 2 home minis. i use the Chromecast and love it but haven't even unboxed the minis. probably has something to do with me revoking microphone privileges to Google on my phone. wasn't loving targeted ads for things i wasn't searching for but was talking out loud about.

Actually I have another solution in the works. It's a scheduled outlet with thermostat trigger. So say Monday through Friday if it's below 40 the outlet will activate at 0430.

Interestingly my house was built in 56 so similar era but I've added so much tech to the house.

This has helped fix that  a lot. Though before I changed this I was getting Islanders updates from talking trash to my dad.

I mean unless you're going the VPN route I wouldn't be surprised if the ISPs weren't already selling off your traffic as is. I figure I'll learn to adapt and accept it as it is so once the Borg hive mind comes for me assimilation will be easy.

Oh, my house is from 1906. The city didn’t even pave the side  streets in this area until 1954-55 though - and I live maybe 2 miles from downtown, as the crow flies. It was just crazy to find that out, and yet everything makes sense now. But this house will be scraped before it gets a Nest.

The trouble was that I was getting ads...very specific ads...for things my wife and I would talk about but neither of us actually input into any machine intentionally. This article was kind of eye opening

Its a shame these weren’t $50+ and Kickstarter vaporware. Would make the plug in process super simple or even if there was a “drive over and they’d automatically link spot”

That's neat. The drive over thing wouldn't work as our cars are street parked and leaving the cord across the sidewalk is technically illegal.
